Rosarita Cuccoli studies the mass media and sports from a sociopolitical and economic perspective. Her specific research areas involve sports journalism, the broader sport-media relationship, and the social dimension of sport. She has taught extensively in France at the bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes of various Grandes Écoles in Paris, Lyon and Angers. She has served as Secretary General of the sports branch of the World Association of News Publishers in Paris. She is the expert in charge of sports and media issues at the scientific committee of the European think tank Sport et Citoyenneté, which studies the social role of sport and promotes sports policies at the European level, with the support of the European Commission. She has served two terms as a Board member of Sport et Citoyenneté and has also chaired the European Network on Women and Sport, run by the same organization. She has participated in European projects such as MARS (Media Against Racism in Sport), a joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe, and FIRE (Football Including Refugees in Europe), co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme. In parallel with her academic path, she has been carrying out journalistic activities for periodicals distributed at the European level in the sport business sector.
She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Rennes, obtained with a thesis on sports journalism from a sociological perspective. Prior to that, she obtained an M.Phil (Master of Philosophy) degree in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and a first class honours degree in Political Science from the University of Bologna, where she also completed the Postgraduate Course in International Cooperation and Aid Policies for Developing Countries.
