Curriculum

Simone Balossino is Associate Professor of Medieval History at the Università degli Studi di Verona. From 2008 to 2023, he served as Maître de conférences in Medieval History (Hors Classe: HC) at Avignon Université (formerly Université d’Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse). From 2022 to 2023, he was seconded (en délégation) to the Centre national de la recherche scientifique. In 2022, he was also a Visiting Scholar at the Università degli Studi di Bergamo, with an appointment in the Department of Letters, Philosophy and Communication.

From 2019 to 2022, he served as Head of the Department of History at Avignon Université. He is an associate member of the research unit CIHAM UMR 5648, *Histoire, archéologie, littératures des mondes chrétiens et musulmans médiévaux*. He is also a member of the doctoral board of the PhD program in “Archaeological, Historical-Artistic and Historical Sciences” at the Università degli Studi di Verona. His research focuses on institutional, political, and social history, with particular attention to urban contexts between Italy and southern France and to the structure of documentary sources. He is also interested in the political-administrative structures of southern France, especially in the relations between the Kingdom of France and the Empire.

He studied at the Università degli Studi di Genova and earned a joint PhD from the Università degli Studi di Firenze and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris).

On 13 March 2025, he obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) as Full Professor in the competition sector 11/A1 (Medieval History).
