Jonathan Kaplan earned his degree in history from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his PhD at Freie Universität Berlin. Based on his doctoral research, he published his first monograph in 2022 on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its National Socialist past. He is currently a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fellow at the Center for European Studies at the University of Verona. His postdoctoral research explores the history of the German Democratic Republic and its engagements with Jewish communities abroad, and is supervised by Prof. Renato Camurri. Previously, he was a Junior Fellow at the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI), a Hilde Robinsohn-Guest Fellow for European-Jewish Studies at the Moses Mendelssohn Center, and a Lahnstein Fellow at the Bucerius Institute for Research of Contemporary German History and Society at Haifa University.
