The project aims to increase the visibility and attractiveness of lesser-known mountain areas, with a focus on municipalities along the Garda-Monte Baldo (GMB) axis. Despite their proximity to popular tourist destinations, these municipalities have been experiencing worrying depopulation for some time. The main goal is to develop a dynamic digital mapping of the territory, which will help enhance local resources and promote sustainable tourism that is compatible with the unique characteristics of the area. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play a crucial role in this process by providing tools to analyze and represent data in innovative ways, particularly focusing on the tourism potential of natural, historical, and cultural components.
The project aims to stimulate tourist flows to lesser-known areas by creating virtuous circuits that link less crowded regions to more touristy ones, such as Lake Garda, encouraging a redistribution of tourist traffic. Specifically, the goal is to support local businesses, many of which are dedicated to tourism and typical agricultural production, such as agritourisms, alpine huts, restaurants, and the production of local products. These businesses, although small, are vital to the local economy but are vulnerable due to the lack of a stable tourist flow.
The digital mapping will help identify and promote these places, raising awareness of the natural, historical, and cultural resources of the territory that are less well-known. GIS will also contribute to creating personalized thematic itineraries, ranging from naturalistic to enogastronomic, sports, and cultural tourism, promoting a deeper exploration of the area. The optimal management of tourist flows, combined with enhanced digital visibility, will support the local economy and help counter depopulation.
Through the integration of advanced technologies like Story Maps, the project seeks to not only improve the management and promotion of the territory but also create a more conscious and engaging experience for visitors, fostering a lasting positive impact on the area and encouraging the settlement of new families.
