- Roger Caillois’ quadripartition of the categories of play – competition, chance, role-playing and vertigo – offers a structurally interesting starting point for exploring the affective palette evoked by the human activity of play. Thus, in order to reconsider these categories and the low permeability of one to the other, the integration of emotions in the study of games and play, keeping in mind Caillois’ grid, could allow us to sketch an ever-changing but renewed definition of play.
