Curriculum

Associate professor of History of Modern Art, Alessandra Zamperini teaches Introduction to Art History, History of Venetian Art, Geography and Art History, History of Fashion. Her interests include iconography; patronage; history of fashion; art in Venice and Veneto from the XVth to the XVIth century; the recovery of antiquity in the modern art; gender issues connected with iconography and fashion.

Research groups

Representation and meaning of female Fashion between Renaissance and Baroque.
The research group is composed of two Professors of Art History (Medieval and Modern Art), a Professor of Modern History, a Ph. D Student from the University of Pisa, two Professors from the University of Richmond, a technician from the Department Cultures and Civilizations. Their common interest is focused on History of Fashion and History of Women investigated through iconographic, literary and social analysis.
Rubens svelato
Il gruppo di ricerca in collaborazione con il Complesso Museale Palazzo Ducale di Mantova si occupa dello studio della grande pala con la Famglia Gonzaga in adorazione della Trinità, il capolavoro italiano di Rubens dipinto nel 1605, che venne tagliato in più parti in età napoleonica. Il progetto prevede una ricognizione delle fonti archivistiche inedite relative alla pala e un approfondimento diagnostico tramite tecniche di indagine non invasive attraverso la strumentazione del centro LANIAC. Oggetto dello studio saranno la pala e i frammenti della medesima, nonchè il bozzetto con il Martirio di Sant'Orsola dello stesso artista. I risultati delle indagini verranno presentati nel corso di una giornata di studi in programma presso Palazzo Ducale per il 12 ottobre 2016; in tale occasione verranno esposti anche ulteriori contributi che consentirano di ricostruire nel dettaglio le molte problematiche storiche e conservative della pala. Al convegno seguirà la pubblicazione di un volume di atti e la presentazione del medesimo.
Sanctuaries in the Veneto region
The members of the team are proceeding to the detailed census of the Christian sanctuaries in the Veneto region, from the Hight Middle Ages to the contemporary age, with site inspections, and detailed bibliographic and archives research.

Iconography of Fashion The project's aim is to analyse peculiar fashion features, such us clothing, accessories, hairstyles, with the support of disciplines such as Modern History, History of Women, Literature, in order to improve the knowledge of the material world reproduced in visual arts and provide additional elements implementing iconograpic interpretations. Iconography of Queenship The project focuses on queens , in order to evaluate how their iconographic features have evolved in time according to their peculiar juridical position (consorts or ruling suo iure). In this view, iconographic attributes and the mode in which queens are represented , especially in portraiture (paintings, statues, prints), will be considered. History of art

Iconography of Power The topic analyses modes, types, cultural and social contexts in which political values and propaganda are expressed in works of art, with particular attention to painting. The main research field focuses on the Venetian context in modern times, but other cases may be considered, should they be useful (by analogy or by contrast) in improving the knwoledge of this theme.
