[ENG] Giorgio Fossaluzza’s research is mainly focused on Venetian painting from the late Middle Ages to the 18th century. His primary field of investigation is verifying attributed authorship and conducting philological reconstructions of artists, not only those in the foreground but also and especially "minor" or "co-primary" ones (e.g. Bellini, Vivarini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Cariani, Bordon, Pozzoserrato; P. Negri, G. A. Pellegrini, G. B. Pittoni, A. Trevisani). During his career he has often addressed previously unexplored themes in his work reconstructing the artistic conjunctures of the local area (Trevigiano, Friuli, Polesine con Lendinara, and the areas around Bergamo and Brescia), the Alpine arc (Feltrino, Belluno area and Cadore), and centres on the opposite shores of the Adriatic (Istria, Dalmatia and Puglia). His work therefore deals with documentary research, devotional traditions and the iconographic aspects that are specific to various contexts, both central and outlying.
By studying Renaissance Venetian wooden sculpture and surveying the 13th and 15th century frescoes in Marca Trevigiana, he also follows in the footsteps of Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle with a view to building on the work conducted by this forerunner of local-area exploration.
He has contributed to the catalogues of leading art galleries, especially in Veneto and Lombardy, and to cataloguing the artistic heritage of local churches and museums, including materials extending into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Fossaluzza’s scientific work is enriched by his valuable past experience with planning and organizing internationally significant exhibition events and providing expert consultancy and editing for periodicals and exhibition catalogues, experience he acquired as Scientific Secretary of the Giorgio Cini Foundation's Institute of Art History in Venice from 1995 to 2002.
Since 2014, he has served as the University's representative on the "Standing Committee for the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage of Venetian Origin in Istria and Dalmatia" for the Veneto Region - Department of International Policies and Cooperation.
He also provides consultation when needed for the Croatian Institute of Restoration (Hrvatski Restauratorski Zavod), supervising its conservation projects and initiatives to valorize Venetian works of art in Croatia.
