Curriculum

  • The central theme that goes through all my research is the study of the epistle as a literary genre and as a means of communication. In this framework I have dedicated myself both to the creation of critical editions of exchanges of letters, and to theoretical works on the epistolary genre. Since several years, my important research topic is the epistolary precepts in the eighteenth century, a subject on which I published a book.
  • A theme that goes through all the modernity and which I have dealt with for the German-speaking areas is the diffusion of the works of Francesco Petrarca and, with them, of the Italian Humanism. At the same time as the works for the publication of the catalogue of the manuscripts of Petrarch in Eastern Germany (ex DDR) which is scheduled for 2019, I studied some topics concerning the Petrarchan reception with studies published in specialized journals.
  • As for the literature of the fifteenth century, I am completing the critical edition with commentary on the letters of Enea's cardinal Silvio Piccolomini, a key figure in the European culture of the fifteenth century and master of diplomacy, also through the use of its dense network of correspondents.
Another theme to which I have dedicated my studies is that of the sixteenth-century religious literature, with particular attention to the cultural and literary debate that lies at the origins of the Protestant Reformation. A key figure in this area is Erasmus of Rotterdam.
